Chimney Inspection
As recommended by the Code 211 of NFPA (National Fire Protection Association) all chimneys including furnace chimneys should be inspected and serviced by a Certified technician yearly.
There are three levels of a chimney inspection.
A Level I inspection (visual inspection) is what is performed in most homes. We carefully look over all 14 parts of your fireplace chimney and verify that the chimney is structurally sound, has no obstructions or combustible deposits (creosote), and all clearances are met.
A level II inspection (closed circuit video inspection) is recommended when the structural integrity of the internals is suspicious, that a malfunction may have caused damage to the internals, however not visible to the naked eye. Also, a chim scan is highly recommended if you plan on converting your system, or if you plan the sale or purchase of a home. The level II inspection also includes the visual inspection of a Level I of all 14 parts of your chimney.
A level III inspection is when the system needs to be taken apart in order to have access to the damaged areas when serious hazards are suspicious.
Importance of a chimney cap
If you have a wood burning fireplace, the NFPA code book suggests that for every cord or cord and a half of wood you burn, you need to have your fireplace swept (cleaned). This consists of removing the creosote (soot formed by the natural byproduct of burning wood) from the inner walls of your chimney liner.
Creosote is highly flammable and creosote accumulation will cause chimney fire. A chimney sweep includes the flue liner, smoke chamber, smoke shelf, damper and firebox.

Relining of Fireplace, Furnace and Water Heater Chimneys
Relining your chimney helps to prevent carbon monoxide build up in fireplaces and furnaces. It also helps to prevent condensation build up in water heater chimneys. Our knowledgeable technicians use high-quality products to reline your chimney.
Tuckpointing
Tuckpointing is needed when the mortar between the bricks starts deteriorating. We deep grind the old mortar and replace it with new mortar between the bricks or stones, matching the mortar for a uniform look. Judd & Son has the best equipment in the area for tuckpointing. Tuckpointing is highly recommended to prevent more costly repairs in the future as deteriorated brickwork weakens the integrity of your chimney or other structure.
Chimney rebuild / brickwork
When a chimney is beyond repair for tuckpointing, a chimney rebuild is necessary. We offer chimney rebuild, partial, from roof line up, or complete rebuild as well as any brick or stone work, including complete brickwork on a new home to rebuilding a planter. No job is too big or too small.
Lock-top damper
Huge heat loss occurs when a chimney damper doesn’t seal properly or is missing or broken. You can’t see it, however, the heat just goes out of the house. If your damper is not sealed properly, it is like leaving the front door open in the middle of winter.
We use the Energy Top lock-top damper. It is constructed of stainless steel and aluminum. The Energy Top lock-top damper also includes a cap for additional protection. They are easy to operate, they have a lifetime warranty, and they are made in the U.S.A.
Chase cover
Our chase covers (top pan) are custom made to fit your chimney. We offer them in stainless steel with a lifetime warranty or galvanized with a 10 year warranty, whatever fits your budget. Both are crafted with pride in the U.S.A.
Crown wash
A crown wash is as important to the external bricks as a cap is to the internals. It protects the bricks from water going in or behind the chimney. It seals off the air space between the outer walls of a masonry chimney and the flue liner and slopes away from the liner to shed water.
